Yordanka Filaretova (1843-1915)

Born in Sofia in a wealthy family. His brother was the Sofia mayor Dimitar Hadjikotsev. She studied at the girls’ primary school in Sofia under the guidance of her future husband, Sava Filaretov. She established a Sunday school for older women. During the Russo-Turkish war in her home Lady Strangford opened a military infirmary, supported by English philanthropic societies. Founder of the Majka (Mother) women’s society, its chair for more than 20 years. Owner of a shelter for elderly people at the Vseh skorbiastih radost (Joy for all suffering people) Charity Society. She bequeathed her property to the Saint Nedelya and The Holy Sepulcher churches.
