Lola Sassouni (Hripsime Metsaturian) was born in 1893, in Akn. She was the niece of Misak Metsarents, Armenian well-known poet.
In 1908, her family made their way to Constantinople. From the very young age she was deeply involved in the national-Armenian activities.
In 1917, she married her ideological friend Karo Sassouni fand moved to Tbilisi.
In 1918, she participated in the battles of Sartarapat.
After the proclamation of the Armenian First Republic, Lola dedicated herself to the organization of the Red Cross in Armenia and when his husband took the position of the governor of Shirak region, she started to cooperate with the general director of the Armenian orphanages.
In 1920, she was imprisoned for her ideological beliefs, and when she was set free a bit later, she moved to Iran. She was involved in public activities also in Istanbul, Sofia, Vienna, Geneva and Paris.
With the help of her friends, she opened some hospitals, she was always trying to oversee the nutrition and health of the poor and orphans, care for their educational needs, promote the rise of the Armenian woman’s intellect, and support the national institutions.
In 1934, she moved to Cairo, then to Aleppo where she headed the Regional Executive of the Red Cross. In 1937, she relocated to Beirut and till her death, managed the works of the Regional Executive of the Armenian relief Cross of Lebanon (ARCL). During World War II in 1942, along with Chavo Shant, Lola established the program called “a plate of food”. As part of the ARCL activities, she undertook the establishment of clinics. In 1954, she established the Recovery Center (Gaztourman Gayan) of Chtaura.
