It was created in April 11, 1879 in Constantinople. Its purpose was to expand the education and enlightenment among the Armenian women. Since the day of its creation this foundation was supported by Armenian patriarchate of Constantinople, but the initiators of the foundation were exceptionally women. The efforts and help of the foundation’s members Sofia Babaian, Katarine Evangulian, Mariam Khosroian, Nune Ghambarian, Taguhi Melik-Azarian, Daria Hovhannisian, Evgine Haykuni were especially important. The Foundation had its core and internal statutes that aimed to regulate its activities. It had the following structure: directorship, general committee, central executive committee, executive committees of braches. The number of the members of the Foundation reached more than 90 people (70 of which were actively involved). The Foundation functioned on the principle of donations. The biggest part of donors were women. Thanks to the efforts of the Foundation on December 1, 1880 a school for girls was opened in Gasapa (in Erzurum), where 100-150 girls aged 6-16 were educated[1].
